Biography

Mimi, 65, is married with two adult children. She works full time at the University of Southern California athletic department as a learning specialist. Mimi played golf, tennis and was a long distance runner. She first felt hip pain while training for her first LA Marathon. But it wasn’t until five years later the pain intensified. She, at first, thought it was back pain. Walking around, getting in and out of her car and caring for her two young children became difficult. After a surgeon recommended hip surgery, Mimi called her brother who had had the surgery 10 years prior. Though he warned her about the operation and recovery, Mimi knew that there had been a lot of medical advances. When she finally agreed to the surgery she saw how different her experience was from what he had described.

  • Video Description

Mimi was able to go to Hawaii after six weeks post surgery. After eight weeks, she went back to work full-time. She tired more easily than she expected but she pushed through and felt better. Five years after her first surgery, Mimi felt the same kind of pain in her other hip. When her doctor recommended surgery again, Mimi immediately agreed. She did the exact same recovery routine as with her first surgery. Mimi has returned to the active lifestyle she had before her surgeries, although running is not part of her exercise regimen anymore She is very glad she headed off having chronic pain with her second surgery. Mimi wants people considering the operation to know that having the surgery sooner than later is, in her opinion, better since you can—after you recover—get your life back.
