Mike knows he could feel sorry for himself—and did at some points—but he feels like he is relatively lucky especially when he sees people who have not had the treatment he had. He also felt he “earned” his recovery since he did all the prep work and recommended rehabilitation. But managing expectations is important, as well. His wife, who was his main caregiver, was able to tell him when he was pushing himself too far. Mike says ultimately that he knows he is “damn lucky to be doing what he is at 71.
